Piroxloid is a familiar name to collectors, they produced many really exciting sets. This is a sample of their wood set. One thing I made note of was the fact that all sides are varnished except the top and bottom, they may have made long sticks, varnished those and then sawed the individual tiles. The box is heavy cardboard covered with oilcloth. It's a typical box with 4 tile trays and 4 smaller trays for the wooden dowel type betting sticks, French Ivory Mingg jar with French Ivory wind disks and dice. Each set also comes with a nice instruction book decorated with wonderful Chinese style graphics.

There are 144 wood tiles that measure 1 3/16" x 7/8" x 7/16". The box measures 9" x 5 1/2" x 3 1/4". The book that belongs with a set like this measures 6 3/4" x 5 ", it has 24 pages and is copyright 1924 by Hugo Manovill.
