The wood on this set is definitely black, it may not be ebony but it was made to look like it. The face of these tiles looks like bone, it has taken on a wonderful gold (aged ivory) look from years of play. There are no markings anywhere to give me any hints about the manufacturer, however, there are no Arabic numbers so I think it's safe to say it is from China. I love this set for the look and feel but also because the artwork is special.

There are 144 tiles that measure 1 1/8" x 7/8" x 1/2". The box measures 10 1/4 " x 5 3/4" x 2 1/2 ".

***  I have now seen a set made of solid bone with exactly the same designs that came out of Tibet.
