These six sets are ones made by Parker Bros. for "The Mah Jongg Sales Co." The font style of the words Mah Jongg are a trade mark of the Mah Jongg Sales Co. which sold many types of sets including very high quality, heavily carved boxes containing bone and bamboo sets. At some point in their history Parker Bros. bought all the trade marks originally owned by "Mah Jongg Sales of America". ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ The first set is a set of mah jong cards, 144 with very nice sharp designs, the set comes with betting sticks and dice. It comes in a yellow box with a small Babcock's Book. The second set is called the "Hong Kong" set. This seems to be a very inexpensive version of the game as there are no accessories and no room for them in the box. The box is cardboard (in poor condition), bright red. It is interesting that the tiles are layered, sorry I do not know what type of wood it is. Each suit is a different color. There are 144 tiles. The third set was called the "Popular Set", it is in a green cardboard box, there are 144 painted wood tiles, betting sticks, dice, French Ivory mingg with wind disks and a little red book by Babcock. The fourth set is a bit different from all the others and I am sorry I don't know if it has a name, there is nothing on the paper work, if you have any information I would love to hear from you. This is a cardboard box, better quality than the above ones, there is a brass plate on the top and a snap on the side. The tiles are wood with a French ivory face and the betting sticks are also French ivory. It is probable that the set originally came with a mingg as well. There are 144 tiles. The fifth one is called the "Tuxedo Set". It is in a "travel size" mahogany finish box with sliding lid and brass plate. This set has 144 teak wood tiles with French Ivory faces, betting sticks, & mingg jar with wind disks, dice and little red book by Babcock. This is the best set ever made by Parker Bros.. It is in a traditional style 5 drawer mahogany finish case with a sliding cover (with trade mark brass plate), and brass drawer pulls. The tiles and accessories for this set are identical to the Tuxedo set. This set was called the "Newport Set". To complete my collection of Parket Bros. sets is this terrific little travel set in a faux Tortoise Shell box. It's very compact as the French Ivory tiles are very thin, however they are a nice overall size. There are little racks with slots to hold the tiles, celluloid betting sticks and a pair of dice.
