This is a vintage "Rottgames" set, in near mint condition. Dating this one
1920s. Rottgames sets have very distinctive designs, this set is their 'peacock' set. It has a zipper case, rare because the construction left a bit to be desired, there are no
hinges on it, rather a double layer of oilcloth. When the cloth gave way I can only assume that people found a replacement. I did have one that was velvet lined once but it had been soaked and
it was in very bad shape (beyond repair). The box is deeper than most to accommodate the dish.
The tile trays are a bit different too, the top one has a ridged flap (probably to protect the tiles from being scratched by the dish). So what is that crazy
dish? As far as I can figure out it is where coins are placed during play, the center probably holds the dice when they aren't being used. The main part of the dish is wood, the
little cups are Bakelite and really pretty. There is felt on the bottom and in the center (dice holder).
The racks are my favorite, solid wood with only slight rash from rubbing each other, but the seperators are so gorgeous and the flippies are quite unique. The separators are Bakelite and the
flippies are little wires with a tiny bead on them.
There is a brown swirled coin bank, over 100 vintage smooth coins and a polishing cloth. On the polishing cloth there is the same instructions as printed on the insert card. When
I purchased this set there was an old tag from an antique store attached to the handle. Too bad it isn't dated.
The tiles are Bakelite, originally this set would have come with 146 tiles, including 2 blanks. I have found 6 extra tiles and stickered them for jokers.
Great set, hope you enjoy the pictures. CHarli
