This is a vintage "Monobridge" set, in wonderful condition. Dating this one 1930s. Monobridge sets have very distinctive designs, this starting with their 'peacock', number one dot and finally the flowers and seasons. This case is an exceptional case, the Peau de Soie lining is orginal and in very good condition as you can see from the pictures. These tiles are very rare because of the burgundy color. I have only seen 3 sets like it. They are Bakelite. Monobridge often supplied extra flowers so I was able to put these great joker design stickers on those. There are 152 tiles in this set. The bettor is burgundy Bakelite, the dice are an ivory colored Bakelite. The coins are swirly Catalin. Monobridge sets were made by Mastercraft Plastics Co., Inc., and sold by Mah Jongg Supply. You can see a copy of a 1952 Sales flyer with a Monobridge set by clicking here. Great set, hope you enjoy the pictures. CHarli |
