CHarli's Bone & Bamboo Sets

Welcome to my site and to the Bone & Bamboo section of my museum. There are some really great sets here and there are also a lot of projects as you will soon see. I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures and if I help you understand a bit about the sets along the way, great! As often as possible I have tried to keep these sets "as I bought them", however, as many of you know shipping is hazardous to the life of an eighty year old box.

It's very hard to know exactly where to start here but some basics are in order. Bone & Bamboo sets were not shipped to this country in those lovely Rosewood or Carved boxes. They came in simple cardboard boxes (I have 3 to share with you). The fancy boxes were sold as accessories along with the betting sticks, Mingg jars, dice coffins and "some" books. The price of tiles varied according to the thickness of the bone but also on the designs. Better quality sets had thicker bone portions and often had some interesting designs. Because these sets were sold "al a carte", there are many variations.

Designs also varied according to the company shipping them or the manufacturer. It's not the same as with Bakelite and Catalin sets though, you can't always tell who the label is just
